How to Understand 55 Gallon Drum Accessories
Accessories for 55 gallon drums may get a little confusing. That’s why we decided to take some time out today to explain the various uses for plastic drums vs. steel drums, and accessories such as heaters, deheaders, pumps, and more. Call us at 847-961-5347 if you would like to discuss any of these accessories or make a purchase. We’d be glad to help you find the solution to all of your storage and waste removal needs.
Steel Drums: As the description indicates, these drums are made of steel. We have carbon steel and stainless steel drums available. Stainless steel is the more expensive option but it is also the most permanent, as carbon steel rusts but stainless steel does not.
Plastic Drums: High density polyethylene provides the strength needed for many liquid storage needs. Our plastic drums meet the UN’s specifications for storing hazardous materials. They’re available in several sizes and varieties with accessories as needed.
Fiber Drums: Our fiber drums provide superior stack strength for dry or solid products. They are not recommended for use with liquids. They meet the UN’s standards for lock-rim fiber drums.
Drum Pumps: As the description indicates, drum pumps are pumps that may be attached to a variety of pumps. We have several types of drum pumps to choose from that fit any number of liquid pumping needs.
Drum Heaters: Drum heaters are intended to provide even heating for the contents of drums. For example, some liquids begin to solidify if they drop below a specific temperature. A drum heater would successfully maintain the desired temperature so your valuable liquids would not solidify.
Water Reduction Heater: This type of heater is designed to evaporate water and reduce the cost of waste disposal. One of our most popular types evaporates up to 1.3 gallons of water per hour.
Industrial Outlets for Drum Heaters: Drum heaters require 120V or 240V outlets, depending on size and type. Make sure to ask us about outlet options when you call to order specific drum heaters.
Drum Deheaders: You can think of a drum deheader as an oversized can opener. They work very similarly to the can opener you use in your kitchen to open a can of soup. We have openers that work on drums in a variety of sizes and materials.
Drum Rim De-Kinker: This is a tool that is specifically designed to straighten, or de-kink, rims that have been damaged during the deheading process.
Screw Caps: Screw caps are designed to securely close the opening in the top of your 55 gallon drum. They’re available in a variety of shapes and sizes to fit all of your needs.
